Unmounted 'Horsing Around' Program

Pegasus introduced our Unmounted 'Horsing Around' Program in 2011. The 'Horsing Around' program is a ten week (2hr/week) program in which participants are able to learn about and interact with horses in a fun, physically active and challenging alternative to a regular riding program.
The program provides a basic introduction to horses and the opportunity to improve confidence, balance and coordination. It also aims to teach the participants how to care for horses; how to move horses safely around; to mount and dismount using the mounting barrel; and to assist and work with others.

- working alongside the horse
- basic horse management skills
- leading skills
- general activity to increase blood circulation and activity in large muscle groups
- stretching to increase body awareness, maintain muscle length and range of joint movement
- working on the vaulting barrel
- rhythm work along side the lunged horse
- fun.
