Pegasus Ponies Profiles How To Adopt A Pegasus Pony

Adopt a Pegasus Pony

There are many benefits of riding for the riders with disabilities who attend Pegasus. One of the greatest is the relationship that is formed between the rider and their horse.

Pegasus ponies have so many special friends. They teach their riders, not only how to ride, but also many other life skills, such as respect, caring and consideration for others, self-control and friendship.

Pegasus has about 20 ponies and horses in its riding for the disabled (RDA) program. The horses are central to our service, but are very costly to purchase and maintain.

Purchasing our ponies

A horse that is suitable for our programs can cost between $2,000 and $6,000 to purchase. When you also add in the cost of travel to trial the horse, a vet check and transport to get the horse to Pegasus, the costs escalate even further.

Maintaining our ponies

Maintenance costs for our horses work out to be about $200 per month. This includes hay and other feed, nutritional supplements, vet care and shoeing.

With 20 horses, we spend about $48,000 per annum on their care.
